On May 30, 1948, five college graduate men of Omega, gave birth to the Xi Omicron Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. This event occurred under the direction of Herschel B. Cashin, John L. Cashin Jr. Alfred G. Adams, Charles Brandon and Robert A. Carter.

Dean Robert A. Carter became the first Basileus. Later that year thirteen college graduates were initiated as new members. They were W.G. Adams, Walter Burs, Jesse Champion, Shrib B. Gilbreath, Bejamin L. Hall Jr, W.H. Hollins, James Lemons, W.H. Lewis, Charles W. Orr, Wilton V. Robertson, Jackie Robinson, J.A. Simpson, and Morris H. Williams.

In 1964 the John L. Cashin, Sr. Memorial Scholarship was established for graduating high school seniors.

In 1966, the Dean R.A. Carter Memorial Scholarship was established for undergraduate Omega brothers at Alabama A&M University.

The Xi Omicron Chapter holds several Life Members in the NAACP and has recently completed a Golden Heritage Life Membership. Since its inception the chapter has contributed over $10,000 to UNCF.

In 1993, the Xi Omicron Chapter was recognized as “Graduate Chapters of the year” into the seventh distinct.

Omega continues to flourish in Huntsville, Largely because it seeks men of the very highest ideals and intellect. The XI Omicron Chapter has a rich heritage. That heritage is to protected , celebrated and continually enhanced.
